Have you ever taken a walk at Holland State Park on the pier just before sunset or a boat ride through the channel on a hot summer afternoon? Ever notice something so beautiful and stunning standing watch over Lake Michigan’s shore? That is our lighthouse, known to Holland natives as “Big Red”.

History of Big Red

The first lighthouse was built back in 1872 and since then it’s had years of renovations, improvements, and new keepers. Today it is a favorite among all Holland attractions being a popular location for beach-goers, boaters, painters, and photographers.

We invite you to Holland’s sandy shore to relax with your family and friends and take in all the beauty the magnificent “Big red” has to offer.
