Mouthguards for Sports: A Necessity?

Informative

The participation in competitive sports among today’s youth is on the rise in America and so are dental related injuries. It is so very important to protect our children’s teeth at all costs.

Why should my child wear a mouthgaurd?

Dental injuries are one of the most common types of facial injuries in sports.  In a survey from the American Association of Orthodontics, 67% of parents said their children do not wear mouthguards during sports activities. Most kids don’t wear them because they are still not required to do so. Having a mouthgaurd custom made is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to protect your child’s beautiful smile.

Custom mouthgaurd vs. store bought

You can find store bought mouthguards in virtually any athletic store and some big supermarkets, however they do not protect the teeth as well as a custom fitted mouthgaurd does. Some store bought mouthguards can be boiled and customized but often don’t provide the appropriate thickness to protect the teeth and gums from fractures and lacerations.

Custom made mouthguards are made specifically for your child’s unique mouth and will properly hold them in place and protect them against any kind of sports related trauma. Custom mouthguards have also been shown to potentially prevent concussions.

Do you know the cost of replacing a permanent tooth that has been traumatically lost?

It can cost upwards of $10,000.00 per tooth to replace.
