February is National Children’s Dental Health Month!

How to
Tap water for healthy teeth

Happy National Children’s Dental Health Month!

In our office we love this Month as it gives us a chance to celebrate the goal that we strive to achieve every day, good oral health! We are ecstatic to receive a whole Month to broadcast the importance of children’s dental health and take the opportunity not only to celebrate but to educate parents and children on the topic.

The observance of this month started out as a single day event in Ohio during February 1941. On February 8, 1949 the American Dental Association grew to a two day event. Over the next thirty years this concept grew and extended to a Month long celebration. Today thousands of dentists, team members, teachers, and health professionals unite to get the word out on the benefits of good oral health.

Each year the American Dental Association has a theme and this year it is

“Choose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile”.

Drinking tap water is always encouraged over sugary drinks. This is obvious for the fact that sugar can cause decay, but giving your child tap water is giving them a healthy dose of fluoride, nature’s cavity fighter. Along with keeping the teeth strong it aids in a clean mouth overall. It helps wash away unwanted residue and left over food that the bacteria in the mouth thrive on, it fights against dry mouth, and it’s calorie free!

Good habits and education are crucial for the long term dental health of a child. This means starting them with a pediatric dentist at age one will help keep your child’s smile beautiful and sparkling now and for years to come. Drink up and help us celebrate the wonderful month of dental health!
