One of Zeeland’s very own took home a gold medal in a national art competition. The winner, Bethany Colbrunn, is only a freshman in high school, which goes to show that age doesn’t diminish talent.

“A record 330,000 pieces of art and writing were submitted from Scholastic’s regional competitions. 2,700 teens representing all 50 states and Washington D.C. were chosen to go to the national contest. By winning a gold medal, Colbrunn is recognized as one of the top one percent of student artists in the nation.”

Hard Work Pays Off

At such a young age, this girl is already crafting her talent. She’s a reminder to kids of all ages that hard work really can make your dreams come true. Ottawa County has an avid art scene that holds a yearly competition, Art Prize. While budget cuts often tear away from the arts, the community and the schools are doing their best to make sure that these dreamers don’t get left behind.
